Diz Osteotomisi

Osteotomy literally means “cutting the bone”. Osteoarthritis may develop when the knee and leg bones are not properly aligned. Osteoarthritis exerts extra stress on the inner (medial) or outer (lateral) side of the knee. As the time passes, joint cartilage that protects the bones may be destroyed due to excessive pressure. This causes pain in the knee.

Knee Osteotomy Treatment

To relieve excess pressure on the knee joint, the knee and leg bones need to be properly aligned. In knee osteotomy, the bones that are aligned by cutting the tibia (shinbone) or femur (thigh bone) also remove the pressure in the cartilage. Knee osteotomy is used when the patient has early-stage osteoarthritis, which only damages one side of the knee joint. Knee osteotomy is the most effective method of surgical treatment, especially for thin patients under 60 years old, active in daily life.
